Suburbia Music Festival - Oak Point Reservation Plano, TX - 5.3.14

Well this was the biggest festival fail of all time. Not the festival itself, but my participation in it. Not only did I not make it to the festival until 5 PM the first day, I didn't make it AT ALL the second day. Tequila is a hell of a drug and will ruin your life if you're not careful (funny, same goes for men).

I mentioned in my previous post I was recently dumped. So naturally after the Gavin concert I got LIT and the hangover was not pleasant. Water has never tasted so good and alcohol sounded so bad. Not sure when I'll learn to stop doing things like this to myself but last night was not the night.

With that said, the only two shows I caught were Needtobreathe and Third Eye Blind. I am perfectly okay with this because the ticket price was worth these two alone. I'm in a one-sided love affair with Needtobreathe and I can now check Third Eye Blind off the concert bucket list.

Needtobreathe

If you know me, you know I am OBSESSED with their song "Something Beautiful" (utterly obsessed, it's literally tattooed on my body). They didn't play it this time, probably due to playing a shorter set, but that's okay. They played a lot of their new stuff which is just as amazing.

Besides having really moving and thought provoking lyrics, the thing I love about these guys is how much fun they look like they're having on stage. And how grateful they always seem for people coming out to watch them play.

Third Eye Blind

Stephen Jenkins is something else. The man entered the stage barefoot wearing board shorts (?) and immediately I asked myself "Why didn't I choose rock star as a living?" because he made it look good.

I only know a few 3EB songs but man, everything they played was good. Apparently they have a new album coming out soon and I will be on top of that. They played a few of the new songs (much to everyone who wanted the 90's hits' dismay) and a few of the 90's hits. Once Semi Charmed Life and Jumper were over I was good. Life complete.

I always find it interesting when a band asks everyone to stop what they're doing and look at the person next to them, and become "one". In this case, it was let go of your ethos (greek for character) and welcome the person next to you. Per usual, I opted out of this because secretly I don't like strangers (and I was hungover as shit). The universe had an other idea. Cue Neil.

It's not unusual for people to bump into you or occasionally invade your space at festivals. So when someone behind me brushed my head with their hand I paid no mind. Until they did it 5 times then I turned around ready to be like "WTF dude." And there stood Neil in his flat bill hat, Mavs jersey, and camel pack. Turns out he was doing it intentionally to get my attention (the back of my head must have been real attractive). He said "Let's fall in love at a Third Eye Blind concert." The rest was history. Well, the rest of the show at least.

Neil, wherever you are, it was magic. Call me.

Listen To: Graduate, Jumper, Semi Charmed Life
